UAB „Profarma“ įgyvendina projektą „Prailginto veikimo oftalmologinio vaistinio preparato implantuose sukūrimas ir vystymas“ Nr. 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856-01-0035.
UAB „Profarma“ buvo įkurta 2007 m. Įmonė vykdo mokslinius tyrimus ir taikomąją veiklą biotechnologijų srityje. Įmonės vizija – kurti ir teikti į rinką saugius, ekonomiškai patrauklius biotechnologinius vaistinius preparatus bei technologijas.
Projektas bendrai finansuojamas iš Europos regioninės plėtros fondo, teikiamos pagal 2014–2020 m. Europos Sąjungos fondų investicijų veiksmų programos 1 prioriteto „Mokslinių tyrimų, eksperimentinės plėtros ir inovacijų skatinimas“ priemonę Nr. 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856 „Eksperimentas“.
Projekto tikslas – sukurti prailginto veikimo oftalmologinio vaistinio preparato ranibizumab technologiją. Planuojamas sukurti vaistinis preparatas bus skirtas oftalmologiniam susirgimui akies makulos degeneracijai (angl. wet age-related macula degeneration, wAMD) gydyti.
Bendra projekto vertė – 1 962 202,81 Eur. Projektui skirtas 1 241 942,40 Eur finansavimas iš Europos regioninės plėtros fondo.
Projekto įgyvendinimo pradžia – 2020 m. rugpjūčio mėn., pabaiga – 2023 m. rugsėjo mėn.

UAB Profarma implements the project “Creation and development of sustained release ophthalmic medicinal product in implants” No. 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856-01-0035.
The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the 2014-2020 Measure No. of the European Union Funds Investment Operational Program Priority 1 “Promotion of Research, Experimental Development and Innovation” 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856 “Experiment”.
UAB Profarma was established in 2007. The company carries out research and development in the field of biotechnology. The vision of the company is to develop and market safe, economically affordable biotechnological medicinal products and technologies.
The main goal of the project is to create sustained release technology for ophthalmic medicinal product ranibizumab. This goal will be pursued in several stages: by creating a technology for active-form active substance ranizumab and analytical methods, which will allow to assess the similarity between the product to be created during the project and the analogous product Lucentis® which is on the market. Further in the project, it will be sought to create a sustained release form of the medicinal product, which would allow prolongation of ranibizumab release time, in this way reducing the number of eye injections for patients from one per month (Lucentis®) to one every 3–6 months.
The planned medicinal product will be used to treat the ophthalmological disease wet age-related macula degeneration (wAMD). Macular degeneration is one of the most common diseases leading to loss of vision in developed countries. It is estimated that there are around 18 million patients in the world with wAMD, but only a small part of them (less than 3 million) get treatment, which is directly related to the extremely high cost of the medicinal products.
The total value of the project is EUR 1,962,202.81. The project received EUR 1,241,942.40 funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
The start of the project implementation is in 2020. August, end – 2023 September.
